What Happens During A Reiki Treatment?
Client Consultation & Recording Case Histories
Before treatment begins your therapist will want to take your details to be kept on
record and will conduct a 'Client Consultation'. This means that they will ask you a few
questions about your health and your reasons for wanting treatment. Keeping full and
accurate records on treatments ensures that the therapist is completely aware of what
treatment is required the next time they treat you and can provide continuity of care.
Reiki is a non-invasive treatment and has no adverse side-effects. It can be used safely
in conjunction with conventional medicine without fear of intervention. Therefore it is
unlikely that your practitioner would see fit to discuss treatment with your GP before
commencing treatment even if you have serious health issues.
The Treatment
You will not be asked to remove any clothing except from that which may be restrictive
during treatment such as out-door wear, shoes, glasses or jewellery. You will be asked to
make yourself comfortable on the plinth or sitting on a chair if that is easier for you and
to relax. The practitioner will then lay their hands on your body in a sequence of
positions designed to give you the most from treatment. You may experience a variety of
sensations during treatment or you may feel nothing. Different people experience Reiki in
different ways. Most people feel an intense but soothing heat emanating from the
practitioner's hands, others feel tingling in the area that the practitioner is working on.
Everyone is different. You will most likely have a sense of deep relaxation during the
treatment and it is not uncommon for people to fall asleep during a session. At the end of
the treatment your practitioner will manipulate your feet a little (if you feel comfortable
with that -if not please tell the practitioner before treatment starts) to give you a sense
of 'grounding'. Your practitoner will encourage you to drink a glass of water immediately
after treatment as it helps to eliminate toxins from the body, the movement of which has
been stimulated by the treatment. Your practitioner will then discuss with you
aftercare advice and any home care that may benefit you.
